Uttar Pradesh is a state in northern India. With roughly 200 million inhabitants, it is the most populous state in India as well as the most populous country subdivision in the world. Uttar Pradesh is divided into 75 Districts and 18 Divisions. Uttar Pradesh is famous for its rich heritage of art and craft. Most famous centers are the following: Agra since the Mughal era has been home to numerous Mughal crafts, including the Pietra Dura, still practiced today.
Uttar Pradesh occupies 6.88 percent of India's land surface area but is home to 16.49 percent of India's population. As of 2011, 64 cities in the state had a population of over 100,000 people.

At the time of the Indian independence movement in the early 20th century, there were three major princely states in Uttar Pradesh- Ramgadi, Rampur, and Benares. The state houses several holy Hindu temples and pilgrimage centers. Uttar Pradesh has three World Heritage sites and ranks first tourist destinations in India. The name was changed once again to Uttar Pradesh in January 1950, under the Constitution of India. Since 1902, the province was known as the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh; which in 1937 was shortened to the United Province or UP.
Balushahi is a famous sweet from Uttar Pradesh, it is basically deep-fried goodness soaked in sugar syrup.
